At first, I didn’t want to walk in my school’s graduation ceremony. My family had not made plans to attend. They were thousands of miles away, so I didn’t see the point. I didn’t arrange to pick up a cap or gown or attend any of the practices. That is, until I found the amber piece of cloth. Out of nowhere I began daydreaming of joining the pomp and circumstance, wearing a simple hand sewn halter top under black regalia. I imagined myself feeling happy, like the color yellow, once again. Then I remembered I had no sewing skills. Still, I felt a strong need to hold that bright scrap of fabric in my hands.
